The connection between Global Business Camps and the South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) began with a couple of small business owners.

They were SARTA members who had attended a previous Global Business Camp. They valued John Tsoulos’s approach, the practical content and the experience of working alongside other business owners. When an opportunity arose, they recommended John to SARTA.

That recommendation led to John presenting at the 2025 SARTA Conference on two topics from the GBC program: Employing & Developing Staff and Managing Customers. Both speak to challenges that transport businesses face every day, and to issues shared by businesses well beyond the transport industry.

The relationship has continued to grow. In its recent monthly newsletter, SARTA introduced members to Global Business Camp 2027, explained the benefits of the three-day program and shared links to the event brochure and registration.

We are grateful for SARTA’s support. We are also struck by how naturally it came about. Two business owners shared something they had found valuable. Their association listened and gave other members a chance to benefit. An introduction grew into a conference presentation, and then into an opportunity to keep the conversation going.

Isn’t that how many good things happen in small business?

A useful recommendation leads to a conversation. A conversation leads to a new idea, a trusted relationship or an opportunity neither person could have planned at the outset. The value grows when people are willing to share their experience and open a door for someone else.

That is the kind of community we want to build around GBC. When industry associations, advisers and business owners share opportunities with their networks, more small businesses can find the guidance and connections they need. In return, the people they bring contribute their own experience and perspectives. A transport operator may approach a staff challenge differently from a retailer or a professional services firm, yet each can learn something useful from the other.

The Camp gives those conversations room to happen. It brings business owners and leaders together to work on profitability, cash flow, customers, systems, leadership and long-term business value. Just as importantly, it puts people in a room with others who understand what it takes to run a business.

Thank you to the SARTA members whose recommendation started this connection, and to SARTA for helping it grow. It is a reminder that a strong business community is built one generous introduction at a time.
